Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is looking for a Texture/Surfacing Artist to join the team on a new CGI animated theatrical feature film.
Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the Art Director and Texture/Surfacing Supervisor, the Texture/Surfacing Artist helps to establish the look and quality of characters, props, and environments. The ideal candidate must be resourceful and creative, and work well within a team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Create high quality UVs, textures and shaders for characters, environments and props
Capable of creating stylized, procedural, and photorealistic textures in several specified styles
Troubleshoots creative and technical issues as they arise
Work closely with the modeling, lookdev and lighting departments
Ensures that Surfacing files are complete and ready for lighting
Works within a production schedule and follows strict deadlines
Works well in a collaborative environment
Able to take direction and constructive criticism from the Supervisors and feedback from the Directors
Follow directory structure, naming conventions and other guidelines for Surfacing files
Skills & Requirements:
3+ years of experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production
Strong artistic eye for detail with the ability to follow reference material and concept art
Ability to unwrap UVs in an efficient and organized manner
Ability to create high quality texture maps
Understanding of shading concepts
Background in visual arts desired
Experience in Maya required
Experience in Photoshop required
Experience in shading and rendering with RenderMan and/or Arnold an asset
Experience with Mari, UVLayout, Mudbox and/or Zbrush an asset

Desktop Support Specialist:
We are looking for a Desktop Support Specialist to join our feature animation team in Vancouver and work with us on some exciting new projects.
Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and solve various desktop-related issues as they arise
Provide first line support to studio artists
Follow up with users to confirm issues are resolved
Escalate difficult issues as required
Setup and configure desktop computers, peripherals and accounts
Support studio by organizing and cleaning equipment, tracking inventory, and other assigned duties
Assist higher-level IT staff with server and infrastructure tasks as required
Be proactive about finding and fixing potential issues
Ensure safe, fast, and secure media movement in and out of the studio
Qualifications:
Excellent knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems as it relates to desktop users
Excellent troubleshooting methodology and attitude
Understanding of basic enterprise computer/networking infrastructure and terminology, such as:
– DNS, DHCP
– LAN, WAN, DMZ, TCP/IP, CIFS, NFS
– RDP, VNC, SSH, SCP
– AD GPOs
– IPMI, BMC, ILO
– Workstation components:
CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, PSU

Rigging Supervisor
Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is seeking a Rigging Supervisor for an exciting new feature film project.The Rigging Supervisor will oversee the development and maintenance of the studio’s proprietary rigs and ripping pipeline.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the Rigging team to build robust character rigs to Theatrical Feature standards
Partner with the Animation team to maintain, test and improve existing rigs and RnD new techniques for future rigs
Maximize the use of existing assets while developing a flexible framework for future projects
Work with the Pipeline TDs and Animation Supervisor to develop and maintain rigging scripts and animation tools such as pose library and animation utilities for automating workflow.
Assist Animation Department with shot specific technical issues.
Develop crowd system to speed up layout and animation of highly populated shots.
Evaluate and recommend tools/plug-ins or software to help improve production output.
In collaboration with the Look Dev, CFX and Lighting Supervisors, ensure that rigged assets meet simulation, shading and lighting standards and that any requirements by said departments are met.
Provide accurate bid days and resource requirements to accomplish expected tasks on time and budget.
Attend regular Production Meetings prepared to represent issues and concerns as required.
Skills & Requirements:
5+ years of proven supervisory experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production.
Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to character rigging and animation.
Understanding of puppet and control philosophy.
Excellent understanding of anatomy, volumes and masses, dynamics and character motion.
Excellent understanding of the animation process, from storyboard to modelling to texturing, animation and rendering.
Production knowledge of Maya, Python and MEL required.

Position Overview:
A Senior Modeller is responsible for delivering high quality assets in an efficient manner. They will identify and troubleshoot problems as needed and will ask for assistance when necessary to ensure effective use of time and resources. Applicants will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple tasks in a production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with Modeling Supervisor and Art Director to realize aesthetic vision of the production
Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
Ability to accurately interpret 2D designs into 3D models
Demonstrated ability using Maya for the creation of both hard surface and organic models
Work within the defined pipeline
Produce the highest quality work possible within a given amount of time
An understanding and experience in the creation and use of geometry assets in a production setting
Work closely with the other departments in the asset team
Promote interdepartmental collaboration
Mentor and help train junior modelers
Participate in meetings and asset reviews
Utilize multitasking ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Education & Experience:
5+ years’ experience creating high quality models for film
Thorough understand of traditional art skills (Form, architecture, anatomy, topology, colour theory and UV mapping)
Skills & Abilities – Technical:

Pipeline Lighting TD

Position Overview:
The Pipeline Lighting TD will work with the Pipeline and Lighting departments in the development and maintenance of lighting tools as well as perform floor support for technical issues.
Additionally, they will assist in the Lead role on a short term basis in the event of an absence or as production needs require it. They will participate in team meetings when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner with the Lead Pipeline Lighting TD to maintain, test and improve existing tools
Assist with R&D for new techniques and/or plug-ins for future workflows and tools
Assist Lighting Department with shot specific technical issues
Education & Experience:
2+ years’ experience in a similar position for feature animation and/or VFX production
Proficiency in Maya. Katana a bonus
Proficiency in Arnold and/or RenderMan
Strong understanding of modern lighting and rendering techniques
BC residents preferred, but not required
Skills & Abilities – Technical:
Strong aptitude for technical workflow
Python scripting
Strong problem-solving skills
Knowledge of Maya API/commands a plus
