VFX Artist:

As a VFX Artist you will produce the real-time effects that give our games and cinematics such life and vibrancy. Your strong technical artistry will see you producing cutting-edge, high quality VFX, while also working within the limitations of real-time engines. You will collaborate with the internal art, animation and sound team and you report to the Lead Artist.

Job Tasks:

Create Visual FX across all areas of the game ranging from environmental, gameplay, weapons, character and vehicles
Being able to follow references, concepts, art direction and yet being able to take the work further independently
Collaborate with Art and Engineering teams, offering creative and efficient solutions to help solve performance related issues
Work closely with the team to ensure the art quality are consistent and cohesiveness
You have at least 2 years experience as a VFX artist within the games industry or equivalent. You understand real-time graphics and have preferably worked on at least one released title.You have a proven and strong interest in the technical creation of VFX for games and cinematics, and are a hands-on person with good communication skills. You will be fluent in English both verbally and in writing.

To be successful in this position you have:

Strong artistic skill set, including a good understanding of animation, lighting, and post FX
Ability to work in a team. You must communicate well, be proactive and self-driven
Proficient with Maya, Houdini, Photoshop and either Unity or Unreal equivalent game engine

Level Designer:

Do you have a passion to bring OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead to…er, life? Are you a passionate gamer, have an ability to convey abstract concepts and the drive to make the level design top notch? Then this might just be the job for you! Starbreeze is looking for a Level Designer to join our award-winning team in Stockholm.

As a Level Designer you will create concepts, paper designs and white-boxes of levels within established sets of rules for OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead. You will work with the Lead Level Designer and the Senior Level Designers to ensure the overall vision of the project is represented on the game levels. You will be involved in all the steps of the level production from the initial layout, prototyping, gameplay validation phase and into final gameplay implementation and optimization phase.

You will develop the maps within the gameplay system constraints, always seeking to ensure the requested rhythm, difficulty, planned script … while keeping it “fun”.

Job Tasks:

Create concepts, paper designs and white-boxes of levels within established sets of rules, in order to produce interesting locations, objectives, puzzles, narrative elements and challenging AI encounters that utilize the core mechanics of the game
Hands-on development of level layouts through all stages of development. You will own and implement levels from concept to final
Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure levels maintain a high quality in design, art, animation, visual effects, lighting and sounds
Participate in design and level design sessions to understand the outline of the game experience
Communicate your designs to the team and ensure consistency with the Lead Designer/ Lead Level Designer‘s vision
Help to maintain and prioritize backlogs and polish lists for your levels
Participate in feedback of other designers’ work
You have at least 1 year experience as a level Designer and one shipped “AAA” title. Solid game industry experience designing solo, multiplayer and co-op levels. You have an excellent sense of 3D game space, gameflow and difficulty tuning with a strong knowledge in professional level design tools. You have experience in designing, building, populating and scripting complex interactivity for next generation products. You are open-minded, adapt to feedback and understand iterative processes. You might have a degree or experience in art, interior or industrial design and you are fluent in English both verbally and in writing.

To be successful in this position you have:

Working knowledge of 3D tools (Maya, 3ds Max, SketchUp)

Senior Animator:

Looking to bring senior animation to the re-animated? Then this might just be the job for you! Starbreeze is now looking for talented Senior Animators to join our award-winning team in Stockholm.

As an Senior Animator at Starbreeze, you will be responsible for creating solid animations, both in-game and in cinematics. You play a crucial role when it comes to tying together gameplay, storytelling and character movement. You will be responsible for pitching ideas and creating prototypes, and might even be part of directing the actors and stuntmen during motion capture sessions. Ultimately, you will bring polish to the final stage, and bring life-like (and un-life-like, of course) animations into the game.

Job Tasks:

Collaborate with the Animation Lead with respect to Art, Engineering and Design teams to define the animation style, produce pre-visualizations and present concept ideas to the team
Create the animations for both in-game behavior as well as predefined sequences (or cut scenes)
Understand and have worked with game-required techniques such as blending, tagging, state machine transitions, animation blending trees, compression, etc.
Create compelling character performances, utilizing both key framed and motion capture techniques, to compliment the game design and promote the artistic vision of the game as a whole
Work with the Producers, Department Leads and Animation team to establish methods to improve the production pipeline, tools and systems that will benefit the integrity of the animations for the studio
Assist in troubleshooting animation and technical issues
Clearly communicate updates and concerns in a timely manner to the Production team to ensure project goals are met and delivered to the highest level
Expected to give advice and mentor entry level Animators

You have at least 5 years experience working with animations in the game industry with at least two shipped AAA title. You are an experienced Maya and possibly Motion Builder user and have an expert understanding of all animation principles. Experience and knowledge of the Unreal game engine is an advantage. We also consider storyboarding skills, a love for zombies/The Walking Dead franchise and a strong interest in working on Virtual Reality experiences as strong positives. You must be fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
